Elevators for Rehabilitation?

Elevators for rehabilitation are those that we install in existing buildings, with the purpose of facilitating or improving accessibility to the upper floors. They are usually Communities of Owners or Public Buildings that at the time of their construction were not equipped with elevators.

What are its main characteristics?

The main characteristic of the elevators that we install for existing buildings is that the dimensions of the elevator will be custom-made, since we have to adapt to the dimensions that we can get out of the building. They are elevators that have a higher traffic compared to single-family or domestic elevators, which is why they must have a higher resistance.

Hydraulic

Hydraulic elevators are elevators whose operation is produced by sending oil after the rotation of an electric motor, connected to a hydraulic pump, causes the piston to rise and raise the cabin. To produce the descent it is only necessary to open one or several valves and the elevator will begin to descend by its own weight returning the oil to the tank.

There are several types of Hydraulic Elevators, with telescopic piston, with direct or indirect pull, etc. Each one will be installed according to the stops, travel or space available in the shaft.

Their installation in recent years has been practically limited to single-family elevators and elevators for large loads, such as car lifts or for industrial use.

Electric

Electric elevators are elevators whose operation is produced by the rotation of an electric motor with a pulley in which the traction cables are housed. When the pulley rotates, the cables move, creating the upward and downward movement of the cabin and the opposite movement of the counterweight (in case it has one).

Types of Electric Elevators depending on the position of the motor:

Elevator with machine room: This is the elevator model that has been installed most frequently up to the year 2000. In a machine room, normally on top, the motor and the control panel are placed. The machine room is usually located on the terrace inside a room, although in some cases it was placed in the lower part with diverter pulleys.

Elevator without machine room: From the year 2000 it becomes a standard due to the ease of installation since it is no longer necessary to make the machine room on the roof, this even allows to make a stop on the terrace, which was previously very difficult unless a hydraulic elevator or a machine below was installed.

Types of electric elevators depending on the type of traction:

Adherence elevator: It is the most common, the pulley rotating the motor rotates the traction pulley which in turn moves the cabin and the counterweight, which have close masses so that there can be a balance with the cabin loaded to 50%.

Elevator with winding drum: In this case there is no counterweight, the cabin is lifted by winding the cable on a drum called winding. The power required is doubled since the cabin has to be lifted without any help.

Frequently Asked Questions about Community of Owners

The price of these elevators that we install in a community of owners or will depend on the type and model of the elevator to be installed and above all of the necessary work. However, there are other factors that can influence the price of installation of the equipment, such as the age of the building and the difficulty when installing it, which, of course, may increase the cost of the work.

Subsidies are available and financing is also available, making the installation more bearable for homeowners.

It is important to know the model and the specific characteristics, as well as to carry out a previous evaluation in order to establish an adequate budget.

The measures may vary depending on the type of elevator. We have elevators from 65 cm of shaft, however, the ideal dimensions to be valid for use by disabled people are 145 cm wide x 145 cm deep.

Depending on the availability and conditions of the space, elevators for homeowners' associations can be installed in the following locations:

  • A stairwell with access to the landing.
  • A patio with access to the landing.
  • Inside the stairwell.
  • On the outside of the building façade

At Tecnolift we offer the installation of hydraulic, electric and R3000 community elevators, with guaranteed quality.

It is very difficult to find a second-hand elevator that fits both the shaft dimensions and the height. In addition, it is not common to remove an elevator once it has been installed.
